This exam is the Technical Specialist: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring. The MCTS on Windows Server 2008 credential is intended for IT professionals. They must have worked on the complex computing environment that ranges from medium-sized to large companies. Applicants for the MCTS must have at least one year experience in implementing and administering a network operating system in an environment that has the characteristics of the following: 250 to 5,000 or more users; 3 or more domain controllers; 3 or more physical locations; connectivity requirements; and network services and resources.
If the applicants pass this exam, they have completed the following requirements for the certification towards Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring. They will also have credit certification towards Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Administrator and certification towards Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Server Administrator.
To help the applicants prepare for this exam, they must have hands-on experience with the product and they should also take other training courses related with this exam. They can take course 6420 (5 days) and course 6421 (5 days). They may also take Microsoft E-Learning collections such as collection 6420 (20 hours) and collection 6421 (20 hours). Applicants may also use Microsoft Press books such as MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit and MCITP Self-Paced Training Kit.
The Exam 70-642 will measure the skill of the applicants to finish the following technical tasks:
Configuring IP Addressing and Services – the applicants must configure IPv4 and IPv6 addressing; configure Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP); configure routing; and configure IPSec.
Configuring Name Resolution – applicants should carry out the following: configure a Domain Name System (DNS) server; configure DNS zones; configure DNS records; Configure DNS replication; and configure name resolution for client computers.
Configuring Network Access – the applicants must execute the following: configure remote access; configure Network Access Protection (NAP); configure network authentication; configure wireless access; and configure firewall settings.
Configuring File and Print Services – the applicants should do the following: configure a file server; configure Distributed File System (DFS); configure shadow copy services; configure backup and restore manage disk quotas; and configure and monitor print services.
Monitoring and Managing a Network Infrastructure – the applicants must execute the following: configure Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server settings; capture performance data; monitor event logs; and gather network data.
