The main focus Microsoft Exam 70-290 is about planning and maintaining of a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environment. The exam measures your ability in Windows Server 2003 management and maintenance. Some sections of the exam is about managing and maintaining physical and logical devices. In this part of the test, the topics are about disk management, monitoring server hardware, optimizing server disk performance and hardware troubleshooting. It also covers installation and configuration for the hardware devices.

The exam also measures your knowledge in managing users, computers and groups in Windows Server 2003 environment. This section is about managing user profiles, creating groups and computer accounts, managing created user accounts and troubleshooting accounts and authentication issues.

The Exam 70-290 also emphasizes on managing and maintaining access to resources and server environments. In the access to resources section, the test measures your ability to configure shared folders and file system permissions. It also covers troubleshooting for terminal services and access to files and shared folders. Some parts of the exam also have topics about monitoring the performance of the web server.

The Exam 70-290 is composed of approximately 50 questions that you should finish under time duration of two hours.
