The exam is on installing, administering and configuring Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. The exam covers a wide variety of things related to the specialization in administration tasks for the Windows 2000 professional.

Certifications

The exam 70-210 is a core requirement for the MCSE certification. MCSE stands for Microsoft Certified System Engineer of Windows Server 2003 operating system. Aside from this, the passer will also be awarded with a certification on Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) of Windows Server 2003 along with the MCSA for the Microsoft Windows 2000 certification. A certificate for MSCE of Windows 2000 operating system will also be awarded to the passer of the exam 70-210. The passer will achieve the status of Microsoft Certified Professional.

Preparing for the Exam

There are preparation resources and tools available for this exam like classroom trainings. These trainings include Course 2152, which is on the implementation of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Server and Course 2154, which is on the implantation and administration of Microsoft Windows 2000 Directory services. There are self-paced training available for Microsoft Press. Other helpful preparation resources are the MeasureUp and Self Test Software websites. These websites gives practice tests similar to the exam 70-210. There are also other online resources with for the exam like TechNet, MSDN and certification and training newsgroups.

The exams aims to find out if the examinee can perform the installation of Windows 2000 Professional in different environments. This includes attended and unattended installation process, upgrading of previous version operating system to the Window 2000 Professional and deploy service packs. The exam also focuses on conducting administrations and implementing resources and troubleshooting hardware devices and drivers. It also covers the optimizing and monitoring system performance and reliability. This is about troubleshooting and managing the driver signing, troubleshoot and optimize performance of the desktop of Windows 2000 Professional. The exam 70-210 has also a part on troubleshooting and configuring a desktop environment and also implementing and managing services and network protocols. Lastly, the exam also involves monitoring, implementing and troubleshooting security.

More Information

The exam’s cost is approximately 125$ for each try. The time allotted for the exam is about 90 minutes and the total mark is graded from 100-900. The passing mark would be about 700. There are 50 to 60 questions in the exams and the format is computer based and in linear format.
