Exam 70-121  
This exam is the Designing and Providing Microsoft Volume License Solutions to Small and Medium Business. The applicants in this exam are designing and selling licensing solutions to small and medium-sized business. Applicants must have at least six months experience in selling Microsoft Volume Licensing programs. They should have basic knowledge of the Microsoft Volume Licensing solutions. Applicants must have basic knowledge of the types of Microsoft licenses for server applications, operating systems, and desktop applications. They should also have a focus on the Open License solutions or they should service customers that usually prefer more transactional method for the purchase of the software licenses.

To help the applicants in this exam, they must have a hands-on experience on the product and they could use training courses. The applicants can take online courses such as Volume Licensing Essentials and Microsoft Licensing for Small and Medium Business. Applicants can also visit Microsoft online resources.

Before the applicants take the exam, they should be proficient with the following:
Analyzing Customer Environments – they must analyze the software acquisition model. The model types include distributed and centralized or combination of these types. Applicants should analyze the acquisition decision-making process. The process type will include distributed and centralized or a combination of these types. They should analyze the customer requirements by identifying the number of servers used by the customer; identify the number of users; identify organizational and industry constraints. The applicants should also analyze the geographic scope of the customer. They must consider a single country vs. multinational, and multiple locations within a country vs. a single location. The applicants must analyze the anticipated changes in the customer’s environment by analyzing planned business contraction or growth; analyzing expected changes in software needs; and analyzing planned contraction or growth of users.

Planning and identifying appropriate licensing solutions – the applicants should identify the type of Microsoft relationship or interaction desired by the customer. They should also identify the payment structure. This includes relationship based or transaction-based payment structure. Applicants must plan for the customer’s short-term and long-term needs. They must also identify the customer’s agreement process preference. The agreement process includes the type of process review required, type of contract, and preferred level of engagement.

Defining licensing solutions – the applicants will receive business scenarios, they must define the Original Equipment Manufacturer licensing solution. They must also define the Full Packaged Product licensing solution. The applicants should identify the appropriate Volume Licensing program. They must also define the Software Assurance solution.
