The Exam 70-100 is referred to as the Analyzing Requirements and Defining Solution Architectures exam. This Microsoft certification exam has been phased out since June 30, 2004. The exam is mainly designed for people who want to achieve the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) certification. Taking the Exam 70-100 is compulsory for MCSD candidates. To be eligible for taking the exam, you should have extensive knowledge in analyzing and designing enterprise-level programs that use the Microsoft .NET framework. The exam is just one part of the four test required to earn the MCSD status.
Skills Measured by the Exam 70-100
The topics covered by the Exam 70-100 are separated into several sections that are all about usable practices for the development of applications. The major portions of the exam include analysis of business requirements, determining technical architecture for solutions, development of conceptual and logical designs for applications, creation of data models, designing interfaces and services and lastly, derivation of physical designs.
The first three major sections cover mostly of the questions found in the exam. The business requirement analysis part of the Exam 70-100 determines the candidate’s working knowledge in analyzing project scope and extent of the ideas required for a business. This portion of the exam also involves topics about proper analysis of different requirements for security, performance, maintainability, extensibility and availability. This section of the exam also covers ideas for analyzing human factors. The remaining parts of the business requirement analysis section aims to know the examinee’s ability to analyze other factors such as requirements for solution integration for applications, scalability requirements and limitations and methodologies for a business.
The portion of the Exam 70-100 which involves technical architecture for business solutions includes topics for defining solution types, appropriate technologies for solution implementation, choosing data storage architecture, testing the feasibility of the technical architecture development of deployment strategies.
The exam also covers topics involving development of conceptual and logical designs for applications. This section of the test involves concepts in construction of conceptual designs based on scenarios which contain work flow process, physical environment, context and task sequence models. This section also determines the candidate’s knowledge in several types of applications such as SDI, MDI, dialog desktop and console applications. It also includes other types of applications such as two-tier, Web and client-server applications as well as collaborative applications. This section also contains questions about application of modular design principles. These topics are used to derive services and components of logical designs. Other ideas to be learned before the exam include incorporation of business rules in object designing and assessment of potential effects of the logical designs.
